AMERICUS, GA (WALB)- In 2007, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center was in the same situation Moore Medical in Oklahoma is in now. Phoebe Sumter is taking up funds and signing a banner to send to Moore, Oklahoma Medical next week.

Moore Medical in Oklahoma took a hit from the EF5 tornado they hit Moore, Oklahoma on Monday. Parts of their hospital were destroyed and had to move patients to another hospital. Phoebe Sumter knows all to well what it's like to be without, so their doing their part in the relief efforts.

ATLANTA, GA (WALB)-  ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that metro Albany's unemployment rate declined to 8.6 percent in April, down three-tenths of a percentage point from 8.9 percent in March. The rate was 9.2 percent in April a year ago.

The rate declined as the number of jobs in metro Albany increased by 200 to 61,200, up from 61,000 in March. Most of the growth came in retail trade and state government.

Jobs were unchanged at 61,200 over the year.

ALBANY, GA (WALB)- Animal shelters and organizations across Georgia are getting a boost from grants totaling $125,000.

Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black made the announcement Wednesday that the Spay and Neuter grants will be split between 19 recipients as part of the Dog and Cat Sterilization Program.

Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black was in Americus today to hand out a grant for a spay and Neuter program at the Sumter County Humane Society.
