AMERICUS, GA - News release from South Georgia Technical College

South Georgia Technical College recently hosted approximately 100 sophomores from Americus Sumter High School South Campus for a special Sophomore Day, in which the students were able to take a tour of SGTC’s Americus campus program areas and facilities.

Vice President for Academic Affairs John Watford welcomed the students in the James S. Peters Gymnasium, also known as “The Hangar.” He gave background information on SGTC’s program areas and explained the mission of workforce development. Watford explained to the students how SGTC prepares its students for the workforce with hands-on learning.

Students were guided on the tour by various SGTC staff, including Director of Secondary Programs Michelle Sealy, Director of Admissions Whitney Crisp, College Connection Specialist Vickie Austin, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs David Kuipers, Director of Career Services Cynthia Carter, and Career Services Assistant Princess Spivey.

The ASHS sophomores were introduced to the world of technical education by visiting the Aviation Maintenance, Welding and Joining Technology, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice Technology, Motorsports Vehicle Technology, Heavy Equipment Dealer Service Technology, Industrial Systems Technology; Practical Nursing, And Culinary Arts programs. The students received gift bags for attending the tour.
