CRISP and SUMTER COUNTIES, GA - News release from South Georgia Technical College

Think Big” is a two-year hands-on service technician scholarship program offered by Ring Power and five other Southeastern Caterpillar dealers in partnership with South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) in Americus.

This dealer-sponsored scholarship program was launched in 2000 and pays the student’s entire two-year tuition.

The Think Big curriculum rotates classroom instruction at SGTC and hands-on training at the dealership in eight-week intervals.

During the internship rotations at Ring Power, students earn hourly wages assisting trained technicians working on Caterpillar machines and components, and are guided by experienced mentor/technicians.

Upon successful completion of the two-year program, the student graduates with an Associate of Applied Science degree from SGTC and has an opportunity to join Ring Power as a Heavy Equipment Service Technician II.

Of the 34 scholarship recipients Ring Power has sponsored in the first 11 years of the program, 14 graduates are presently employed by Ring Power as shop or field service technicians and four are current students in the program.

Ring Power is now interviewing prospective candidates for the fall semester at South Georgia Technical College, which begins in August 2012.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, with a high school diploma or GED and a 2.5 grant point average or higher.

Successful Think Big candidates must also meet the same mechanical aptitude standards (as measured on the Bennett and Can tests) as required for the Ring Power Apprenticeship program.

If you know anyone who may be interested in learning more about the Think Big Program or applying for a scholarship, contact Chip Hadley, VP Training and Recruiting via email: chip.handley@ringpower.com or by phone in St. Augustine, FL, 904-494-7658.
