AMERICUS, GA - The third annual men’s health conference will be Saturday, September 17 at the Georgia Southwestern State University Student Success Center from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Free Health Screenings will take place from 8 am to 10:30 am and will include PSA, Diabetes, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol.

AMERICUS, GA - Phoebe Sumter Medical Center will begin their 100-day countdown of the opening of their facility Friday, September 9 at 11 a.m.

This new facility will come four years after a F3 tornado destroyed the community hospital back in 2007.

The anticipated opening date for the new hospital is Saturday, December 17.

News release from West Central Health District

 

The Columbus (Muscogee), Macon, Marion, Quitman and Schley County Health Departments in the West Central Health District will be closed on Friday, August 12th and employees required to take a day off without pay due to budget cuts.  

However, the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) office will remain open in Columbus and Ft. Benning and continue to serve the public.

In a few months the people of Americus and Sumter County should have a brand new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, a tornado destroyed the old center

"Construction is going very well and everyone is very excited about the opening of the hospital later this year," said Marcus Johnson, Director of Marketing & PR at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

The new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center will be 183,000 square feet, four stories and feature 76 private rooms, and according to CEO Keith Petersen, it will be "the finest small hospital in America".

AMERICUS, GA – WALB News 10 Chief’s Meteorologist, Yolanda Amadeo was the guest at the 2nd Annual Phoebe Sumter Woman’s Health Conference held in Americus Saturday, May 21.

Amadeo delivered a powerful speech and poem written by Nikki Giovanni titled, "Ego Tripping."
