Inmate found unresponsive in Sumter Co. | News
AMERICUS, GA- The Americus GBI is looking into the death of a female inmate at the Sumter County Jail.
The woman was found unresponsive around 11:00 AM Monday morning in the women's dormitory area of the jail.
She was taken by ambulance to Phoebe Sumter Regional Hospital where she died just before noon.
Investigators say there were no obvious signs of what may have caused the death so the body will be sent to the crime lab in Atlanta.
Because her son is in the military and hasn't yet been reached, her name is being withheld.
